Versatile, multi-sport-superstar Bo Jackson will show off his cooking prowess at the annual All-Star Block Party at Jamul Casino. The all-day event takes place June 12.
Along with star-studded culinary demonstrations, the Block Party will feature a Battle of the Broadcasters poker tournament. That tourney is a run-up to a $100,000-guarantee event in the RunGood Poker Series.
Bo Knows Cooking
Bo Jackson is the only professional athlete to be named an All-Star in both baseball and football. The Heisman trophy-winner played in the NFL for the Los Angeles Raiders.
His Major League Baseball career was spent playing for the Kansas City Royals, Chicago White Sox and California Angels.
Yes, Bo knows cooking, too.
Jackson will appear at the Jamul Casino Block Party to grill up some of his favorite meals from his Signature Foods line. Guests can also vie to win a Bo Jackson Signature Grill by Coyote Outdoor.
The event is scheduled from noon to 4 p.m. at Tony Gwynn’s Sports Pub.
A $25,000 cash giveaway is also up for grabs.
Battle of the Broadcasters
Poker players will be matched against a slate of sports celebrities in the The Battle of the Broadcasters tournament.
The tourney is a preliminary to the final event that holds a guaranteed $100,000 prize pool. There are also $500 “bounties” for players who knock out celebrities in the Battle of the Boradcasters.
Bounty players include former San Diego Padres players Bret Boone, Gary Templeton and Rollie Fingers.
Former San Diego Chargers great Charlie Joiner will also be on hand.
CBS-TV sports broadcaster and former NFL quarterback Steve Beuerlein will also be in the field, along with NBC sports broadcaster and former NHL star Jeremy Roenick.
Buy-in for the tournament is $575 and begins at 10 a.m. on June 12. There will be a meet-and-greet at 11 a.m. at Loft 94, with tournament cards getting in the air at noon.
RunGood Poker Series
The Battle of the Broadcasters tournament is part of the 6-day RunGood Poker Series happening at Jamul Casino.
RunGood is the two-time winner of Global Poker Awards’ Best Mid-Major Tour.
Events included in the RunGood series take place from June 8 to 13. There’s also a “satellite week,” starting on June 1, that leads up to the RunGood Series.
Finalists from three flights of play, including the Battle of the Broadcasters, will advance to the RunGood main event and qualify for the $100,000-guarantee prize pool.
The final day of the RunGood main event begins at noon on June 13.
More Block Party Fun

The Block Party will also feature live music throughout the day in JIVe Lounge. Artists include DJ Marc Eazy, Psydecar & B-Side Players, and 80z All-Stars.
Sweetwater Rewards members who check into JIVe between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. will have access to Cajun shrimp po boys, crab cakes and Creole-spiced sweet potato tots.
